Booking FAQs
What are you doing to keep my group safe during the era of COVID-19?
Great question!
- We are limiting groups to 8 or fewer, at least through Oct. 2020.
- We are complying with all Virginia laws, including wearing a mask while indoors (except while eating), and maintaining social distancing protocols from other groups of people.
- Your guide will have a bottle of hand sanitizer available for guests to use at any time they wish.
- We will no longer be asking guests to sign in on our tablets.
- If you or anyone in your party feels sick or is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you call or email to reschedule your tour.
What should I expect from a Petersburg Food Tour?
On our food tours, we will walk through Old Towne Petersburg, learn about the area’s intriguing history, and pop in and out of several restaurants, breweries, bakeries, and shops for tastings. Our food partners will seat us when there is room available, but occasionally a food tasting is served while standing in or outside of the establishment. For this reason, you should wear comfortable shoes, and bring water with you – especially during the summer!
Must tickets be purchased in advance?
Yes. The cutoff for purchasing a ticket is three hours prior to the tour’s start time so that we can notify the restaurants of the number of guests. However, tours may sell out early.
What if I have food allergies or dietary restrictions?
We are happy to accommodate vegetarians on our tour with a delicious alternative at every stop! Please let us know your preference when prompted during the booking process. There will also be a space for you to note any other dietary restrictions. We cannot guarantee there will be something for you at each stop, but we will do our best.
Is the tour suitable for children?
The tour is open to everyone, and we let our guests use their judgement regarding whether a 2+ hour tour is appropriate for their children. Everyone attending the tour must have a ticket.
How many people can attend a tour?
We currently limit tour groups to 8 people.
What is your cancellation policy?
All purchased tickets are non-refundable. However, if you can no longer attend on the scheduled tour date, you may change to another date as long as you notify us of your intention at least 7 days prior to your tour.
Can I book a private tour?
Yes, private tours are available for groups, and make a great workplace outing, bachelor/bachelorette weekend activity or client appreciation event. Please fill out the form on our Private Tours page, and we will get back to you quickly.
Are gift certificates available?
Yes, indeed! And they’re super easy to use. Find more information on our gift certificates page or use the Book Online button below.
Tour Day FAQs

Where do the tours start?
Meeting spots can vary – your tour’s meeting location will be included in your confirmation email.
What’s parking like?
Free parking is available near each tour’s starting location. We’ll include additional information in your confirmation email.
How will we find the guide?
Your tour guide will be easy to find! They will be at the designated meeting spot in a Petersburg Food Tours shirt, rain or shine.
How much walking will we do?
Walking distances vary, but we will usually walk about 1 mile. Since we’ll be covering this distance over a span of 2+ hours, it’ll seem like even less, though we will be on our feet for portions of the tour.
How should I dress for the tour?
Please dress casually and comfortably, as we will spend some time on our feet. We will also be outdoors between stops, so be prepared for the weather. It can get quite hot in Petersburg during the summer.
What if it rains?
The tour goes on! We can eat inside, but bring an umbrella for walking between stops. If the weather is unsafe, the tour will be modified or cancelled and appropriate considerations regarding refunding/rescheduling will be taken.
What about the winter? It’s cold outside!
Food tours are an indoor and outdoor activity. And the best part is that they are flexible! If the weather is cold, we’ll limit our outside time to walking between stops, just as we do with rain. Don’t let a bit of cold weather keep you from a delicious tour!
How much food is provided?
Samples are provided by each of our food partners. We prefer to emphasize quality over quantity, but for most people, there is enough food for a full meal. You certainly won’t want to eat immediately before or after the tour!
Are any beverages served on the tour?
Yes! We offer two beer tastings at one of our current partners. There will also be an opportunity to purchase other beverages throughout the tour. Guests should bring water with them, since portions of the tour are spent outside.
Are restrooms available during the tour?
Yes, you will be free to use our food partners’ restrooms.
Does the tour end in the same place it starts?
We will not end at the same restaurant, however the final stop is in the same building as the first stop!
Should I tip the guide?
That’s up to you! Tips are definitely not required, but your guide will appreciate the recognition of a job well done.
